CPDC at Buckman
Road:
The Community Preservation and Development Corporation
(CPDC) is a program serving families living in the CPDC
housing development at Buckman Road, Alexandria, Virginia.
LKO is partnering with CPDC to expand the educational and
social skills of children of CPDC by conducting enrichment activities
on the first Saturday of each month.
Girls Probation House:
The Girls Probation House is a Fairfax County facility for young ladies
involved in chronic offenses and/or delinquent behavior. LKO
is partnering with the Girls Probation House by mentoring and assisting
young ladies 13-17 years of age with gaining a sense of independence,
self control, and self-confidence so they can successfully return to
their homes and communities and build healthy and productive
futures. Monthly events are held with the young
ladies.
Single Moms Mother's Day Baskets
The Single Moms Mother's Day Baskets project recognizes two single
mom's in the Northern Virginia area by providing them with a 'feel
good' basket. Items, such as toiletries, household and
food, are collected from LKO members to create
baskets. Baskets are presented during the Mother's Day
weekend.
Recycling of Cell Phones - Domestic Violence
Members of LKO donate unused cell phones to be presented to local
police organization to aid victims of domestic
violence. Presentation to be made in October,
National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Recycling of Eyeglasses - Gift of
Sight Program
Members of LKO donate unused eyeglasses to be presented to local
organizations to assist persons of need with vision
care. Presentation to be made in December in
conjunction with the Lions Club's Gift of Sight Program.
Kozy Kerchief
Members of LKO will work together to produce scarves for women who are
undergoing treatment for cancer. The one day activity
includes cutting, sewing, ironing, and packaging the scarves
for presenting to area hospitals/cancer centers.
Thanksgiving Baskets
Committee members create thanksgiving baskets for presenting to local
families during this special time of the year. Baskets
include nonperishable goods as well as gifts cards for area grocers.
Orphan Foundation of America'
Care Package Project
Members of LKO volunteers to assist the Orphan Foundation of America
with its 'Care Package' project. Three times per year, the
organization assembles nearly 2500 packages for distributing to college
students without families.
Little Miss AKA Youth Enrichment Program

Young Authors Program
The purpose of the Program is to improve reading and writing skills of
young children. Students in 2nd – 6th grade submit
a literary entry for competition and the winners become published
authors and illustrators.
Scholarships
In conjunction with the Educational Charitable Foundation (ECF) of LKO,
we award annual scholarships
to students attending Fairfax County Public High Schools, as well as
donations to the general scholarship of a Historically Black College
and University.
