LKO Chapter History
Thirty years ago, the idea of a new chapter in the Reston-Fairfax, Virginia area began in the summer of 1975. Mrs. Beatrice Harrington, Mrs. Ora Lawson, and Mrs. Thelma Calbert discussed the possibility of creating a local chapter. Through a number of efforts led to the creation of an interest group. At a second meeting of this group, an Interim Organization Committee was formed.
On December 18, 1976, at the home of Mrs. Estelle Gaymon, our first president, the chartering of Lambda Kappa Omega Chapter was held. The Mid-Atlantic Regioinal Director, Janet Ballard, conducted the chartering ceremony in the presence of nineteen Charter Members.
The support and contributions of Lambda Kappa Omega has been seen throughout the local community through activities, such as scholarships to local students, donations to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and local charitable organizations, service projects for underserved groups, and partnerships with local affiliates.
